Google temporarily censor award winning jounrnalist

Google seem to have lost sight of their 'do no evil' motto, after the software giant closed the Youtube account of an award winning journalist, for what some are saying was political pressure.

But after a week of international pressure, Google have re-enabled , minus the 100+ videos he had originally uploaded.

Abbas's videos primarily highlighted the police brutality that takes place in Egyptian police stations and prisons.

Google claimed it closed the account due to the 'gratuitous violence' the videos contained, yet they say Abbas is free to upload them again.

A Youtube spokesperson said:

"Having reviewed the case, we have restored the account of Egyptian blogger Wael Abbas -and if he chooses to upload the video again with sufficient context so that users can understand his important message we will of course leave it on the site"

It sounds like a case of shoot first and ask questions later. Or perhaps Google were just being over-cautious.
