Duke Nukem Forever this year? Believe it when you see it

Take this one with a bucket of salt. 3D Realms, developer of the original 'Duke Nukem 3D' video game, says the much publicised sequel 'Duke Nukem Forever' may be released in 2008 on PC, Xbox 360 and Sony PS3.

For those not in the know, 'Duke Nukem Forever' has been 'in development' for 12 years, seeing no less than 3 engine changes, and has earned high placings in Wired annual Vapourware awards.

Due to the unusually long development cycle, 'Duke Nukem Forever' is affectionately also referred to as 'Duke Nukem Whenever', 'Duke Nukem NeverEver' or 'Duke Nukem IfEver' among other variations of the same.

An extremely cliche game teaser for 'Duke Nukem Forever' was released last December, which incidentally is a perfect example of why game developers shouldn't pretend to be cinematographers (see the end of this article, then you'll believe me). Did I just say that out aloud?

You know what happens to every game that is delayed a few years? It fails because the gameplay model is outdated. Changing engines won't make shit of difference to that. STALKER is a perfect modern day example of a game that sucked arse but would have been great if it was released when it was first promised.

I reckon DNF will be the biggest suck fest of the year upon release. And yeah the trailer is crap. Looks like the Doom 3 engine and is well passed its expiry date.

Honestly, they can't come out with this game now. It'd be like destroying a legend. The whole POINT of DNF now is that it's never coming...

As long as it is better than 'return to castle wolfenstein' as a remake, I will be happy.

@ Franken; I couldn't agree more. I reckon it will suck balls like Doom 3 did and yeah it looks like the Doom 3 engine to me as well or possibly the Chrome engine. Either way, dated. Since playing Crysis (3 times now) everything else looks crap in comparison.
