Retailers using shady tactics to sell defunct HD-DVD players

With the recent death of Toshiba's' HD-DVD format, some retailers are using shady tactics to clear shelves of the now obsolete players.

Engadget are reporting that some retailers are renaming the HD-DVD players in an attempt to misguide the ignorant consumer. Toshiba's' HD-EP30 HD DVD Player is now listed as the "HD-EP30 HDMI Upscaling Player with HD DVD High Definition Playback".

Certain marketing types might call it creative selling, I call it text-book manipulation and exploitation. Spread the word.

Not surprised at all. You had expect this after the Toshiba announcement retailers everywhere screamed. They just got stuck with unmovable merchandise. I guess HD DVD is the new laser disc.
