Life imitates Star Trek again: NASA invent tricorder

NASA has created the first commercial hand held x-ray chemical analyser, reminiscent of the Tricorder from the Star Trek television series, a fictional device used for the same purpose.

Produced in conjunction with a company called KeyMaster Technologies, NASA's device is capable of performing on-the-spot chemical analysis, a process which is usually done afterwards in a lab.
