Aussies moving forward to start blocking smut

It is finally happening. The illustrious leaders of our land down under are going ahead with plans to block porn at the ISP level.

Forgetting for a moment the issue of taking responsibility away from parents, the pre-election gimmick plan was still given the green light despite a government funded study from 2006 that declared it won't work.

Anyone who understands how these technologies work, even at a basic level, will know this is destined for failure just like previous efforts have been. Remember 16 year old Tom Wood (pictured) from last year who managed to bypass the Governments $84 million client side porn filter in 30 minutes? We can expect to see more kids like Tom once trials have finished in Tasmania.

Which ever way it works out, be assured the Government will be announcing it as a success, our very own 'Mission Accomplished' it will be.

Personally I would rather see the money spent on schools and hospitals. You know? The things where money does make a difference.

I mean really the internet is for two things, blogging and porn. You would think people would learn that when you try to take something away from us it only makes us that much more determined. I will take 10 teenagers who were just told they had their porn taken away over any one hundred computer programmers to find a way to beat the system.

Agreed. Another certain failure at tax-payers expense, designed to placate the "Today Tonight" watchers of the world.

The Positive:
Maybe the youth will acquire some extra computer skills from their clash with the government's blocking system.

It's probably worth mentioning that the system will have an "opt-out" option.

Imagine that call, though, will you: Hello, iiNet? Yes, I'll be needing porn turned back "on" thankyou. That will be the time the phone is answered by a young girl too... who'll be sitting there thinking "dirty bastard!".

In any case, I look forward to this being a complete disaster. I wonder if RustyLime will get blocked, due to some choice words, and the ad for PrivateGirls which keeps appearing...

If some young girls do answer the iiNet phones it will almost be like a cheaper way of making dirty phone calls. I can just imagine the slogan. "Call us and talk about your need for porn". Then of course there will be a picture of a smiling girl wearing a headset.

What a waste of time, money and effort!!

Seriously! Porn will always be available and since when was censorship part of the national perogative. When did Australia become so prude and uptight? And to such an extent that censorship is required from internet providers!
