If you ever needed proof that you can put a trademark on anything, consider Futuremark Games Studio, the company responsible for the PC benchmarking suite and more recently entering the game development, erm...game.

So what do they want to trademark? Software? Hardware? How about a commonly used gamer term? Yeah you read that right. Futuremark have filed papers to trademark the word 'Pwnage'.

If it were April 1st I wouldn't even be writing this, but rest assured this isn't a joke. It's surprising they haven't considered some of the other common gamer terms, like 'n00b' and '733t'.

I wonder if these guys will have to start paying royalties.

What in the blue hell are these shenanigans. This is a travesty a sham and a mockery, it is a traveshamockery. I am sorry but this is one of those words that makes me nearly pop a blood vessel when I hear it.

I've always been a fan of "nublet" myself. As a MMO player I will say some people take it to a extremely idiotic level.

What grounds do they claim first use of it on?

This would be like the clown that tried to claim first use and a patent on smilies and other text based emoticons, without a hint of evidence.

...in response to this comment by Vegar. Nah I think Mike was actually referring to Teet. ;)
