Google and Microsoft bidding for Digg?

Update: The by Digg's very own Jay Anderson.

There is a rumour fast spreading that Google and Microsoft are both bidding for the popular user generated news site, . It's hard to get any clear indication on how this all came about so file this one strictly in the 'suspect rumours' category for now.

pretty much mirrors my feelings on this issue if it turns out to be true, being that a Google acquisition would be fine, but a Microsoft acquisition would be...lets just say 'less desirable'.

It would only make sense for Microsoft to buy Digg if they have plans for their own user generated news site, because even they know that with their considerable muscle and endless resources they could not hope to compete with Digg.

And what of , Digg's founder/creator? If I were him, and I were offered tens of millions or even billions to sell, I would do it. Opportunities like this don't present themselves every day. But he is worth considerable millions already, so who knows?

Anyway, we will be watching with interest.

Instead of "If I were him, and I were offered tens of millions or even billions to sell, I would do it", should have been "If I were him, and I were offered billions or even tens of millions to sell, I would do it" :P
