China want to control political opinions from foreign performers
Mikey 1 commentIt's no surprise how far China will go to maintain a squeaky clean image and stamp out any political view that opposes their own. But since Bjork's "outburst" last week Chinese authorities say they will be tightening the leash on foreign performers. At the end of her Shanghai concert last week, the Icelandic start shouted "Tibet! Tibet!" after her song 'Declare Independence".
I am not sure exactly how China intends to tighten the leash as they can not control what comes out of a performers mouth. At worst all they can do is ban them from performing in their country again. Perhaps they also shouldn't be entertaining foreign performers who are well known for their political outspokenness. Letting Bjork perform in China would be like letting Midnight Oil perform in America - something is bound to be said.
Anyway, good on her.
