Monday 7th April 2008 | 08:03 PMGood Grief, now Im waking up in the very early hours and commenting on Rustylime. I hope this is just a phase. I like the cartoon, as those at R.L. might have already guessed, but it opens the door to Atheists becoming something we have loathed about Christians forever. Violence and slaughter. Isnt one of the reasons that we decided that we were atheists was because of all the slaughter done over the years by the Christians in the name of God? We are above this right?
I did some research on the web to see if I could find out what is the religion of the author of the comic, Steve Napierski.
Not to much info there. One guy on My Space seemed to think he was a Catholic, but mostly all I could discern was that he does do lots of religion bashing in his comics. Which I heartily approve of.
However, as amusing as this comic is, as a thoughtful, critically thinking American living in Mexico, I can not condone this particular offering. I like green jackets, and have a couple, but I would never inflict violence on another because of their religion. Theres no doubt in my mind that many Christians would though.
And now that I think about it, I can think of some other much more blatantly and obscenely offensive religious fools that I would kick the shit out of prior to a Scientologist. But I just dont see it happening.

I doubt however that it is a winning argument that Atheists are less violent and more tolerant than religious people. The Communist regimes of the Soviet Union and China seem to challenge such a notion.

...in response to this comment by Jake. Thanks Jake. I thought it was not only hilarious, but a much needed laugh considering the friction between the two extremes we usually get around here.
Oh and for the record, Gillon - a really nice bloke and someone I have a lot of respect for (and not to be confused with Gilly!) - is on a level of atheism that would make you and I look like Christians in comparison LOL.
