Defendant wins against RIAA...sort of

Amurao was sued by the RIAA in 2007 when they learned someone at his IP address had used Limewire to share music illegally. Amurao's daughter confessed to being the one who used the program, and the case against Amurao himself has now been dismissed at the RIAA's request.

While it could be argued the RIAA did the right thing by requesting a dismissal when they realised they had the wrong person, unfortunately the Judge has declared that both parties are responsible for their own attorney fees.

This doesn't go towards keeping the RIAA in check, meaning they can uproot and financially ruin the lives of the innocent people they go after without any retribution. I find it a ludicrous situation where a person can be wrongly accused and end up in financial disarray without any compensation.
