Dubais' penis building envy

Dubais' <del>penis</del> building envy

We've seen some mammoth going on in Dubai, both conceptual and real with each architect seemingly trying to emasculate out-do the other, but this concept is almost too ambitious even for them.

The planned $US700 million dollar 'moving' sky scraper will be the first of it's kind which will be in constant motion, rotating apartment to give the impression of shape shifting.

I have a few questions.

  • 1) How much noise would it make?
  • 2) How the heck will the elevators work?
  • 3) Why?
  • 4) Seriously - why?

i saw this one on the news last night... can you imagine the jump in motion sickness tablets when this sucker is ready for ppl to live in it... there'll be chuck everywhere..

i reckon trying to point out which side you live on will be best. how is it going to be trying to come home from a night out on the sauce? not that it can happen in dubaii.. grog restrictions are huge, you need a liquor license in your own home dammit.

i'll get my big brother to keep an eye out for it tho. he works in dubaii and says that there is new buildings (bigger and better than the last) cropping up all the time.. i mean if you can go snow-skiiing in the desert, what else can you do? well, there is buy your own island shaped like any country you want

Why? Because it can be done. Isn't that the human thing to do? Doesn't matter if we should or not, if we can, someone will do it.

Staying on theme here, judging by the picture the building will go from a firm erection to wrinkly one?

...in response to this comment by Anders. Yes it will but only over time, so at least this time art imitates life :)

How is the plumbing going to work?

No sense in having a rotating building if it's going to be covered in the resident's shit!

I am looking forward to 2050, when the thing is in disrepair and stuck on its gears and will cost too much to fix, so it grinds away night and day, shuddering on the spot and completely vacant; after the oil money that funded it has long dried up...

None the less, if they make it and it works, I'd love to see it. Dubai hosts some real marvels of engineering.

As a final note: my friend does 3d animations for many of the architectural projects in Dubai and many, many of them do not ever leave the drawing board. (their work can be seen here btw: http://www.lastpixel.com.au/showreel.html)
