Trailer: The day the Earth stood still

As Hollywood is clearly running out of ideas, add this movie the the ever growing list of remakes that will assault us in the near future.

The Day the Earth Stood Still was originally released in 1951 and is a 'story of a humanoid alien who comes to Earth to warn its leaders not to take their conflicts into space, or they will face devastating consequences'. (wikipedia).

I haven't seen the original but the trailer for the new film looks OK.

One thing I did find very amusing was the dialogue:

"Don't be afraid"
"Afraid of what?"

...immediately followed by a scene of a guy with a horrified expression as he stares at Microsoft's Windows Vista.

Anyway, enjoy.

Can't stop twitching. WTHSPF? (What the holy sh*t piss f*ck?)

You can not remake this flick. It is not allowed. The Day the Earth Stood Still is holy sacred film by itself. It is a legendary film that has been referenced in more films than even I can remember. I have seen a lot of shit.

I am so angry , so very angry with Scott Derrickson and David Scarpa, the Director and the Writer for this, this thing, this abomination of film remake horrors.

In other words no. Not allowed.

@ the Vista scene - Nice spotting LOL. I wonder is that was done on purpose and the trailer was edited by some Apple guys :-)

...in response to this comment by The Movie Whore. The original is an amazing story within itself, I don't think this new remake will do it justice. I haven't seen the original movie, but I read what was in Wikipedia.
TMH- maybe you can explain why it shouldn't be allowed. I don't watch any movies, I stopped many yrs ago for my own reasons. This is why I don't comment much on Movies, I don't know any of them. I do have an idea of what you're saying, you don't think they will demonstrate the original meaning behind this movie?

I wholeheartedly agree!
For those of you that have not seen the original, please find it somewhere and give it a go. I'll leave TMW to sell you on it completely in a couple of days but, it is one of the few movies that I will recommend to anyone. I don't care if you don't like 'sci-fi' or 'alien' movies, this one transcends those categorizations and contains a wonderful message that everyone should hear.
