Wifi stealing: German courts get it right

It's pretty darn rare that a Judge actually decides on a technology based case and gets it right, so it's worth mentioning when it happens.

A German court has ruled that people who leave their wifi router unprotected, and have said router connected to by outsiders, can not be held responsible for anything that gets downloaded using that connection.

According to TorrentFreak, there are constant instances where people have been sent legal demands because someone else had jumped on their connection and illegally downloaded copyright protected warez.

I wonder if this extends to people who deliberately leave their wifi connections exposed for this exact purpose. It sounds like a legal loophole waiting to happen, but it's still good news and should go a long way o protecting the innocent.
