Aussie scientists unlock cancer secret

Aussie Scientists have unlocked the secrets of a certain protein which controls the way blood cancer cells spread when damaged, and consequently have found a way to stop the process.

With this new discovery, researcher Professor Michael Parker says they hope to cure leukaemia, asthma and rheumatoid arthritis.

They are now starting work on a drug which will prevent the damaged cells from operating, essentially stopping cancer.

bloody hell! I can't believe the tv news hasn't been covering this. If true, this is possibly the biggest scientific breakthrough since penicillin.

I heard them talking to this guy on the radio. It sounds very good (and reminds me of "I am Legend") but they haven't done human testing, etc.

None the less I am very excited by advances such as these and other recent moves on repairing lost limbs, spinal damage etc. Really wonderful to think such things can be cured in the future.

But then I go to a doctor and get reminded that, essentially, they're pretty damn useless. Basically, if my success rate was the same as the average GP, I'd be fired on the spot. It comes down to a) penicillin (a natural substance we found by dumb luck) or b) bed rest and let the body fix itself. If that doesn't fix you, modern medicine is pretty much on the ropes.

It all sounds great until the same old question is asked - "when will it be available?" Answer - 10 years!

...in response to this comment by Bob. i'm guessing it would be sooner rather than later, especially if they are bringing it to the media's attention now.
