Youtube video helps indict cop for tackling cyclist
Mikey 7 commentsAn NYPD cop who tackled a cyclist last year has been indicted thanks largely to a Youtube video which went viral on Youtube after the incident occurred.
The officer, who claimed on his report that the cyclist had shoved him, has been indicted for falsifying records and could be charged with a misdemeanour assault.
But it's not as simple as it sounds. Even though the video evidence pretty much makes a clear cut case, Officer Pogan's lawyer says:
"My client denies any wrongdoing in this matter...I would have people withhold judgement until all the evidence comes out about the bicyclist’s actions prior to my client taking action."
I'm not sure what imaginary evidence the lawyer could be referring too considering Pogan's report says he reacted to being shoved by the cyclist.

Tuesday 16th December 2008 | 11:49 AMKim OJ - are you writing a fiction novel. Your projecting an unreality as an excuse.
...in response to this comment by Exotic Electron. I am looking for a motive, most crime and human behavior has one, but that does not necessarily justify the action. Obviously the cop would not be justified or excused even if the bicyclist's shirt said "NYPD pigs", but he might be motivated by it.

Tuesday 16th December 2008 | 01:35 PMBrutal footage, I remember seeing it when it first hit youtube. I seriously hope this cop is never in a position where he has the option to cause harm to another person ever again. That right should be removed from him if he was to stay on the force in a different role.
NY cops have a long history of brutality, so I'm going to assume the rider is completly innocent. And because it would be just plain stupid to do anything silly or threatening during critical mass.
The cop assaulted the rider... It was not self defense, the cop lied.
Surely if the Police Officer was provoked or had seen the cyclist do something illegal... then this would have been part of his report.
He is not fit to be a Police Officer. This sort of behaviour from a policeman is corrupt behaviour and promotes corruption if the officer gets away with it.

Wednesday 17th December 2008 | 09:25 AMI still don't see why the Police Officer singled out this rider? He had many opportunities to bowl over many who rode close to him but you can see him looking at this rider well before the rider got there. WHY???

Thursday 8th January 2009 | 08:56 AMI think it's perverse that the viscious and brutal aggravated assault perpetrated by the cop is a misdemeanour while the filing of bad paperwork is the felony.

Tuesday 16th December 2008 | 11:45 AMIt seems pretty plain that the cop is guilty of brutality and lying, but I am not so sure the bicyclist is innocent. It does not make any sense of the cop just randomly decided to assault a bicyclist in a crowd of people. The cyclist must have done something to provoke it. Maybe his shirt says "NYPD Pigs" or something?
