Windows 7 Beta torrent leaked (build 7000)

There's plenty of information out there on the upcoming Windows 7 operating system, but if you aren't among the rare few privileged with being part of the beta team you can still test drive it for yourself.

Windows 7 Build 7000 has found it's way to torrent trackers, all 2.43gb of it.

Based on the accounts by many testers this is a significant improvement over previous versions of Windows (including Vista, but somehow I think that's a given).

If you want to try it out, here's a good place to start.

I have tried Vista repeatedly, and have been greatly disappointed. Since then, I have migrated to Linux (Ubuntu specifically) as a viable alternative while MS tries to provide a realistic alternative to XP. Unfortunately, windows 7 does not appear to address the issues that Vista created. It still appears that it will require a ridiculous increase in overall hardware performance, will still come in up to 6 flavours and will not really address the inherent security issues left in the wake of most MS software.

Frankly I see no reason to be upbeat about this new version.

To be honest I never totally understood why so many people had problems with Vista. I've been using it since about 2 months before day one without the need to upgrade. There were a few initial problems, drivers being one, and some new OS specific problems, but everything else about it made WinXP feel like a chore in comparison - and so I never looked back. Teething problems are part of every new OS. Vista has had 2 service packs since then and it's a pretty stable OS now. Remember when XP cam out and everyone said it was sh*t and that it offered nothing different to Win2000? Three service packs later and XP is one of Microsoft's most mature efforts, and all those Win2000 die-hards eventually switched over.

The one thing that most annoyed me though, was the public crying about having to upgrade to get the most our of Vista. Well guess what, XP was nearly 7 years old when Vista was released to the public, and anyone who thought it was unreasonable to have to upgrade after that amount of time to run a now OS that offered so much more (not to mention gave the option to look pretty darn sweet if you had a reasonably new graphics card) - well those people had unrealistic expectations.

And if those same people are still crying about having to upgrade when Windows 7 is released then they need to seriously look at themselves. If they don't like it, there are alternatives. No-one is forcing their hand. Ubuntu is not too shabby and has a good interface, although in my opinion any Linux distro is unsuitable for novices and certainly not a suitable alternative for an office full of Windows users. I won't go into that now though.

...in response to this comment by Marvin the Martian. The first 2 weeks I used Vista I hated it. Then I started actually using it as Vista and quit trying to use it as XP. I love it now. Works great and I have not had any problems. I am curious to see what the next OS will do.

I'm in total agreement with the Movie Whore here, I've had no serious problems with Vista. Granted it's not on my main computer, but I've used it enough. I guess if I did more than surf the internet on my laptop it would be a different story. The biggest problem was the constant updates it would get when I first got it.

My main computer is XP, and that won't change until the computer changes. As a side note, I dual boot my laptop with Vista and Ubuntu. Depending on my mood I'll load one over the other...

I will have to join the consensus on this one. Vista, at first, I found to be terrible, however now I wouldn't go back to XP. Overall, I would call it my preferred "Windows based desktop environment".

I'll stick with my Macbook. It's been 2 years now and I've never looked back.

...in response to this comment by harold . What a compelling and eloquent argument you make. You stick with your Windows XPS.
