Mikey 19 commentsLaiste has just informed me that our little blog has been nominated as a finalist in the 2008 Weblog Awards, under the category of Best Australia or New Zealand Blog. Wonders never cease.
We are honoured to have been selected among the esteemed contenders in this list:
- Rusty Lime
- A.E. Brain
- KerrieJean.com.au
- The Dawn Chorus
- Tim Blair
- Screen Play
- Media Spy
- Gizmodo Australia
- Ask Bossy
- All Men Are Liars
Who would have thought? Anyway, these are some great blogs, and I'm not just saying that because we are among them :-) Don't forget to vote for us though!
That is some awesome news.

Thursday 1st January 2009 | 12:26 PMIf design is one of the judging criteria you guys will win that categrory. Good luck.
Yay for us!
Nice work! What does it mean if you win?
...in response to this comment by Wendy W. We don't win anything physical as far as I know (like a trophy or something) but we do get bragging rights for a year and that's enough for me :-)
I gotta say - those others are just entry level Wordpress blogs (and some are big business backed, too) - they should lose straight away, for that alone.

Friday 2nd January 2009 | 07:26 AMCongratulations RL - and I agree totally with Rodney on this one. Your site layout is phenomenal. Best of luck.
...in response to this comment by Man Overboard. How could I not give kudos for that kind comment :-) Thanks matey! You might not know it but I read yours (http://www.babeled.com) from time to time.

Friday 2nd January 2009 | 08:18 AMOf course we know this. When a site with 10 daily visits suddenly receives 11 it does not go unnoticed.

Friday 2nd January 2009 | 10:53 AMBest of luck and consideration for this piece of cyberspace being a ground-up CMS that both looks great and performs better weigh in to the decision making and the thought process behind the voting.
It'll be a public voting that opens on the 5th of January, so its more of a populatiry contest then anything else.

Friday 2nd January 2009 | 11:47 AM...in response to this comment by Rodney. Nothing so sophisticated as Wordpress - I'm still using the Blogger system I started with 6 years ago. I only updated from the Olde Originale Templayte at the Australian National Library's request so they could archive my blog as an "online article of cultural interest and national significance'.
Which says something about the bar being set pretty low...
...in response to this comment by Zoe Brain. "so they could archive my blog as an "online article of cultural interest and national significance""
Haha that's awesome. I read through a few of your articles - some interesting topics you have there :-) Consider me a new regular reader.
Welcome to Rusty Lime Zoe, and Happy New Year. I don't think we've had a genuine Rocket Scientist register before!
...in response to this comment by Greg M. Thanks Greg. I wish I knew the judging criteria but my guess is content will make up a large portion of the vote followed by usability, design etc. At least I think content should be the main component. I think we perform admirably in that regard but obviously I can't be the judge of that :-)
