Google to kill services and jobs

Blame the economy or blame declining demand, either way doesn't matter now as Google have just announced and are also a handful of services.

The lay-offs are all from the Human Resources department which might give a clue that Google don't plan to do much hiring in the near future. As for the services set to close, will kill uploading within a few months, the team are no longer working on the project, Jaiku will be closed before it was even launched, and will be killed.

I think most people won't miss any of these with the exception of perhaps Google Video, but that has probably continued on for longer than it should have considering how long ago they acquired Youtube.

I don't know why anyone has a human resources department anymore, it is so redundant! OUTSOURCE!!!

A good friend of mine who I run with a few times a week was the creator of Google Idol and made squillions off selling the concept/programming to Google.

Google Video is/was awesome. Want to upload a full 2 hour video? No problem. YouTube? Split it over a dozen files, maybe unless you're a sponsor/partner or something.
I'll be using other places from now on for larger videos. YouTube is quickly becoming the cesspool of the internet, besides /b/. I can't help myself but to read comments at YouTube. I don't know why I do it.

If Google isn't recession proof what chance does the rest of business stand?

I'm experiencing something really strange when I type in -- I get the WashingtonPost.com website, even though my address bar still says Isn't that weird?

...in response to this comment by Question from Gina Squitieri. Sounds like your browser has been hijacked (spyware).

As a precaution download Adaware and scan your system to see if that fixes it. Rodney blogged about this just a couple of weeks ago: https://rustylime.com/show_article.php?id=3984

Thanks, Mikey. It's not doing that anymore. I restarted my computer after that happened and it took care of the problem. (Will the Adaware work on a Mac?)

...in response to this comment by Gina . Good friend of mine had the same problem, a simple anti-spyware program did the trick. However, it was not on a mac. But I am sure there are programs out there for macs that do the same thing... And for free...
