Master of Science Degree for Creationism being considered: Seriously

This idea is so hilarious I literally choked on my weetbix as I read. A Texas legislator is trying to pass a bill that would allow a private school that teaches creationism to grant a Master of Science degree in the subject.

Yes you read that right: a Master of Science Degree for Creationism. I'll give you a minute to stop laughing.

Aside from the fact there's nothing scientific about Creationism, this is the same as handing out degrees in stupidity. Thinking about how a course in ignorance stupidity dumb-arsery Creationism might be structured, I reckon the answer to every question would simply be "God did it".

"Congratulations young man, you've successfully answered every question of this 5 year course with "God did it". You are now a Master of Science."

I think they would be the strategically placed morons of society.

I can't see this bill getting passed but that it's even being entertained says a lot about Texas

When you stand before your creator on your day... try laughing when you ask him where it all came from....

I don't have a problem with people doing this course, as long as they know what they're getting in to - there are plenty of other equally pointless courses one can get qualified in. If people want to cough up their money for this, then so be it - it's their money. It's worth no less than "degrees" you can buy out of the TV guide or even some real university degrees.

I would hope that people paying for this degree at least understand they're not going to get a job out of it - they'd just be doing it for the "love of it". This is a lot less insidious than the courses that sucker people in by making them think they're getting a real, worth while degree out of it.

Your ignorance astounds me Mikey!

Not really, but it is amazing what the creationist circles get up to these days.

In days gone by, 'god did it' really was the 'creationist argument', but as I've been spending some time attending their meetings and contributing to their discussion, I am forever astounded by the lengths that they go to to push their theologically derrived arguments. The science behind creationism may be somewhat convoluted and based around the central premmise that 'god did it', but that is about the most simple of the various arguments that they have.

Essentially what they do is analyse theorum relating to evolutionary biology, quantam physics and anything that might be even loosely related to the big bang. They traul through the published papers and journals and pick apart any facet that is remotely disprovable, and I must say, having almost completed my own science degree, they can be elloquently described as 'disprovers'.

While the actual science community pays them no attention or vestage, they can be quite vocal when new theorum is published and presented.

The amazing thing is that they expend so much energy on attempting to disprove anything contradicting creationism, but are ultimately intelligent enough to crack into these theorum and attempt to counter them... what a freakish waste.

Actually, the degree should be called a masters in defensive science.

...in response to this comment by Rastafari. I stood before my creator just yesterday... we had a great laugh. We always do, my parents and I get along splendidly.

Ok God didn't make the Earth in six days but who or what created the universe and last question "WHY" ?????

...in response to this comment by Bob. I did... the big bang was actually the aftermath of a baked bean lunch with pickled onions and indian curry for dinner.

Seriously though, just because there is no proof of the big bang or other theorum conserning the universe's existence, does not mean that you should attribute it to a magical sky pixie with a white beard.

To do so would be beyond stupidity, it would be down write creationism.

I dont really think of it as a waste. If someone proves something with a floored experiment and these guys can prove that the experiment is floored then I think that is a good thing. The original scientist can go back and change his experiment and try again.

...in response to this comment by Aaron. Their energy is not focused on making theory stronger but on disproving it. My point was that if such intelligent people used their energy in more intelligent ways, the theorum could be taken to greater depths. Instead they marginalise people's life work in an attempt to prove the existence of something that they themself theorise the existence of which can be disproven with far less stringent scientific analysis than it takes to bust a theorum attributed to evolutionary biology.

They do all that in an effort to prove themselves right so they don't have to feel afraid. It is a scary thing to question what you've been taught (for perhaps all your life) to believe. Beliefs can become so deeply ingrained that you think they are FACT, and it feels safe that way.
