Want to know what sort of system was required to render those amazing scenes in James Camerons' Avatar? Check this out.

Thirty four racks, each made up of 32 machines with 40,000 processors and 104 terabytes of memory. For the last month of production those 40,000 processors were doing 7 or 8 gigabytes of data per second 24 hours a day.

Those are some seriously insane numbers. Obviously traditional cooling wasn't an option.

Right on Mikey...

There has been allot of talk about Sci Fi movies on R.L. of late, and as you know, it's hard for me to get excited about very many of them. However, this one sounds and looks like it must be quite good. It is now at the top of my list. I'm told that it's a must to see it in 3D...So be it. Perhaps this weekend. Still have to see "The Road" however.

BTW, I did see what was perhaps the worst movie I have ever seen last nigh at home: "The Limits of Control." Rather than write an article about how bad it was, I'll just take advantage of this opportunity to say that "The limits of Control" is crap. Don't waste your money going OR renting.

I'll see you at "Avatar"

...in response to this comment by Friendo. Cheers. I'm actually heading out now to return 'New Town Killers' (http://au.rottentomatoes.com/m/new_town_killers/) which wasn't much good at all. I'm looking at nabbing 'Public Enemies' (http://au.rottentomatoes.com/m/10009526-public_enemies/) amusing they have it on Bluray. That's all I'll watch these days :-)

I'm wonder about the maintenance, I don't know if my trusted remote computer support can handle the those huge figures.
