Hooray for religion: Rape victim punished for becoming pregnant

A sixteen year old rape victim has received 101 lashes (following the religious decree) for becoming pregnant during the attack. Her attacker, a 20 year old has been pardoned by the village elders, because - you know - upholding the words written by prehistoric ancient tribesman is far more important than anyone's human rights.

Furthermore, her Father was fined Tk 1,000 and Muslim elders issued a fatwa insisting the girl be kept isolated until her family agreed to corporal punishment.

The girl passed out several times during the lashing which was carried out on January 17 by a village leader, and she took hours to recover.

"Enamul has spoiled my life. I want justice"

Of course this sort of thing happens in many cultures, where women are treated with disrespect and denied anything that might put them on the same level as say, a human being.

You have to admit, no matter what your religious stance is, any country that punishes rape victims and pardons rapists isn't worthy of your respect. Is it OK to blindly follow barbaric religious teachings without question? If you do, you're a muppet.

You see where I come from respect is earned, it's not inherited because of any particular religious siding. And dumb sh*t like this won't do anything to win anyone's respect, not even in your own country. When your own countrymen are to scared to say anything about these sorts of incidents in fear of being punished for opposing the religious word, then you really need to pull yourselves out of the stone-age and come and join the civilised world.

It's pretty good living by modern principals. You have rights - even women! And if you don't like something, you can say something about it without fear of beheading. If you're the victim of a horrid crime, the law takes your side and the attacker gets punished! And you'll have the support of dedicated organisations and the community to help you get through it.

And the best part - wait for it - you don't have to follow any religion! Incredible but true! That's right, you can live your life the way you want to live it, instead of being dictated by words written by barbarians who could not possible have any notion of what it's like to live in a world where much as been explained by science, where people work tirelessly to improve our lives.

"You have rights - even women! And if you don't like something, you can say something about it without fear of beheading."

Well, maybe not a literal beheading or a literal 100 lashes.

Our society still punishes female victims for speaking up about domestic violence, and making choices that don't belong to the mainstream, believe me. Actually any run of the mill non standard life choice gets the choice maker at least a cold shoulder and a tut tut. We must know our place, or god only knows what could happen...we could find out our whole eccono-social system is built on a giant turd hill!

My heart goes out to the victim of these disgusting crimes. I pray she finds peace, and her government grows a heart and a brain.

its not that long ago that in western counties women were perscuted for what they wore.. thus almost condoning rape.. ("you wore that slutty dress/top so there fore made yourself more provocative for men thus making the rape happen")

no matter which way you put it, it is disgusting that the women are still villified in these cultures and religions.

It just makes your heart sing really doesn't it? Not only does the poor girl have to deal with the trauma of being raped and having to bear a bastard child to a rapist pig, she gets even further humiliated by having him get off scott free and then she is subjected to even more physical and emotional trauma by being whipped. Wow! I love religion... Big Kisses xxx

Because prayer will do a lot of good won't it? I hope you're not one of these people who also pray for god to cure a sick child when there is perfectly good medicine that will do the trick.

Welcome back old Chum, though I suspect you were around wearing other guises.

I'm a troll of a liar? No, sorry mate, I express opinions and facts, sometimes either or both are wrong and I freely admit it, but I have no reason to lie.

The fact of the matter is that a group of fag-hating fundamentalist Christians travelled to Uganda to meet with the heads of government and 'strongly suggested' a series of steps to get rid of homosexuals.

If you read through the laws, the are a horribly vile list of intollerant Christian sentiments. Christianity is intollerance, it is segregatory and divisive.

and similar victimology ('reverse victimlogy?') is applied in crimes other than rape.
