Totally Awesome: Google Liquid Galaxy

Tell me you don't want one of these in your house. OK maybe it's a geek thing, but this is the closest thing to Star Trek Stellar Cartography I've seen in the real world.

Liquid Galaxy was spawned from one of Googles 20% projects, and features 8 LCD panels that surround you, with a voice activated (and physical interface as well) given you total immersion in Google Earth and Street View.

The video below despite being filmed on 'shaky cam' shows how good the system looks.

The reality is there's nothing stopping anyone from setting this sort of thing up at home already, with enough spare cash and a little software knowledge I could see this something I would like to have a crack at. Though unfortunately in the real world I'd have a hard time justifying 8 LCD panels to my better half.

Very cool stuff. You just need to inform your significant other that you are solving the world's problems one LCD monitor at a time.
