Windows Home Server beta testing

I have to say I am pretty darn excited. I have been selected by Microsoft to be a beta tester for the upcoming Windows Home Server software. I guess I really am a nerd.

The timing could not have been better. The past few weeks I have been seriously thinking about setting up a proper home server environment with the intention of serving media to the home theatre PC and also being a backup repository. Windows Home Server is designed for those specific purposes in mind.

With hundreds of home movies (standard and hi-definition), thousands of digital photos, and TV recordings on the home theatre PC, I can see 2 or 3 terabytes is going to be a realistic requirement. But for this testing phase, I am using a machine of modest specs and only 120gb of storage.

Anyway, you can be sure I will be posting my experiences here. In the meantime, some screenshots below. Click on any to see full version.

Congrats on making the beta. I applied for the same but didn't hear back. When did you find out?

I got an email last Friday. I have since downloaded the 3 ISO images and all the documentation, and got confirmation from the development team that it is OK for me to blog about my experiences here.

In the middle of putting a new machine together for it so it has the best chance or running smoothly.
