Lots of Windows 7 Tablets coming this year

As keynote speaker at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference, CEO Steve Ballmer said they are 'hardcore' about tablets and we can expect a whole bunch of them this year coming from partners such as Dell, Sony and HP to name a few.

You just know these will be far superior to the Fisher Price toy iPad on a feature basis, just like other manufactures are when compared to the iPhone.

I just don't get why Apple continue to release brand new products that are way behind the curve. Maybe it's because Steve Jobs knows he can put a turd in a shiny case and brand it the 'iTurd' knowing Apple fanbois will still buy it.

Jokes aside, I for one am looking forward to seeing Windows 7 on a modern day tablet, which will introduce more competition to the Apple iPad.

And now, because it amuses me, I leave you with this picture comparing the iPad with a HP tablet from 7 years ago.

Ach. The iPad....really? I reckon Mr Jobs just wants to go down in history as the guy who made Star Trek tech ubiquitous - remember they had PADDs in the Next Gen? Reckon he's trying to make them a reality. Thing is, as you rightly say (would have given you kudos, but couldn't find the button), the damn thing's a joke - just about exactly the wrong size, creepy, and pretty minimal in what it will actually DO, compared to the available things it COULD do.

But then it's like all Apple stuff, isn't it? Pretty bloody useless, but awfully, awfully pretty. Steve Jobs is the Tyra Banks of the computer world, churning out these vacuous, personality-free little inventions that look gorgeous and do precisely buggerall of any real value.

Mind you, that said, I'm not looking forward to Windows 7 being more widely available. They seem to have hidden all the really good, useful bits - y'know, like Macs have been doing for a decade - so you have to try and interpret the developer's brain before you can do the simple things in life. Ugh. Come the day we get Windows 7 on an iPad I think I might just turn it in and pick up my Life Membership of the Luddite Society...

...in response to this comment by Tony Fyler. Tyra Banks...uhg!

I gotta' admit, I get quite a bit of enjoyment out of my EVO G4, which is about as close to a hand held computer as I have yet encountered. I could never do Blackberries-the keypads are too small for my chubby fingers- but these new GUI phones are the coolest.

The x-pads seem a bit funny to me however; Larger than a phone, yet smaller than a Laptop. I like the portability, but do you put these things on a holster on your waist? I spose I will have to try one, as I like so many of us am a sucker to techno-crap.

Now what I really want to see, is one with a built in Web-cam.

O.K. here it is Months later now, and I am still having trouble with this Pad/Tablet thing. I want one!

The Apple is too big and looks cumbersome. There's a ton of hardware features it doesn't have. It's too big. It looks like I would have to buy all the software for it from the Apple store. I want Stereo, USB, camera, slots, jacks, headphones, and a video output. Did I mention I think the IPad is too big?

The problem is, I am already totally convinced, the Android OS will not do what I need. Why is it that Apple can use their familiar OS on their tablet, but Samsung and others have to go with this Android thing? Why is it the Apple that has the computer tablet, and the others have the phone tablet? This is what it seems like to me anyway. Why can't I have Windows7 on my tablet?

O.K.-O.K. I see a ton of Win7 Tabs on ebay, but not a single one of them have a brand name that I have ever heard of. Not even Compaq, or E-machine. Also, the ones I see are on ebay are suspiciously too inexpensive.

Is anyone going to come out with a Name brand Windows Tablet?

I know all my techno guru friends on RL are going to think me a dunce, but I can't get any real answers to this dilemma....HELPPPPPPPPPpppp!!!!...
