Inspired by seeing the Horse Skid video turn up on yet another web site (and appropriately ridiculed), I thought it would be fun to research some of the worst special effects to appear on film.

Admittedly Youtube was the extent of my research, but there's no denying the following five videos clips can be filed under the 'maybe we should try harder next time' category.

The horse skid.

Bollywood has a lot to answer for when it comes to special effects. They truly rank among the words worst, as evident by this hilarious horse stunt.

Shark Attack.

There's nothing funnier than special effects that combine stock footage with obvious disproportionate masking. This is pure gold.

Shoot the landing gear.

The CGI in this movie is barely up to the standard what Hollywood use just for their low res drafts. Matrix meets 'My first 3D Studio Max Project'.

Van roll.

This PSA video obviously couldn't afford a stuntman/car crash combo in the budget. What to do? Outsource the CGI to a local high school? Maybe.

Over acted fight scene.

To be fair, this scene was done in a single pass, which would have been difficult to choreograph. But the over-acting by the villains make it just so laughable. They seem to suffer from 'video game enemy' syndrome, where it assumed that once you are off-screen, you are either dead or incapable of retaliation. The guy who got stopped by being tripped up by a chair is a perfect example.
