iTunes reaches monumental online music sales milestone

Steve Jobs and Co. can all give each another a pat on the back for what is a significant milestone in online music sales. Apple sold their 3 billionth song (wow) through the iTunes service and don't look to be slowing down any time soon.

This makes Apple the 3rd largest music distributor (trailing WalMart and BestBuy physical stores) and accounts for 10% of all US music sales alone, out shining Amazon (6.7%) .

The iPod certainly played a huge part on the online store's success, for without it iTunes would just be another regular online music store. A monumental effort non the less.

At 1 dollar a song I would like to know what % they actually see of that and what their overheads are. Pretty damned impressive all the same.

More over, 3 billion sales. 10% of the US market. That's 30 billion sales...

And RIAA claim the music industry is suffering due to P2P?
