Firefox reaches 400 million downloads

Proof the underdog can succeed in the face of long established competition, Mozilla has proudly announced Firefox's 400 millionth download.

It's an amazing achievement, and testament to the realistic need for users to have a faster, secure and better supported web surfing experience.

I am a long time Firefox evangelist/aficionado, so excuse me if I urge all you Internet Exploiter users to try it now. And while you are at it, grab some Firefox extensions to make using the web even better.

Hell yea, Firefox is awesome! I switched over maybe 2 years or so ago now and am completely happy with it. I completely recommend it. And you can't beat a recommendation coming from some random guy on the intertubes!

Since when the fuck is Firefox an underdog? Everyone uses Firefail. Try a real web browser like Opera.

400 million is a big number but that doesn't mean there are the same number of people using Firefox. Retenion is one of Mozilla's biggest hurdles (Google "firefox retention" to read all about it).

The strange thing is that Firefox is a superior browser in every respect. Opera is a great browser too even though nobody uses it (http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp) and there are a lot of things I like about it.

'Underdog' by definition is the party most expected to lose, so by that token whether FF is an underdog or not will depend on who you ask.

Too true. I am a Firefox user but I probably alone count for 10 or more downloads, through various computers and reinstalls.

None the less, I'm a true Firefox convert and will never go back to IE.

I love Firefox. But I like Opera too. I rely on Firefox's various developer addons for work, but I reckon if it wasn't for them then I'd be using Opera.
