Student suffers stroke: Teachers don't call 911 because of idiotic school policy

An honour student at Jamaica High School was denied emergency treatment after having a stroke on campus, because of a memo stating that 911 is not to be called under any circumstances.

The Principal who issued the memo has since resigned but is still working in the education field.

The parents of the girl are suing the school claiming that quick treatment could have avoided her suffering which ha snow also affected her ability to read and walk properly.

Video report at CNN.

Mike, did it state why the school had this idiotic blanket policy?

It sure did. Apparently there have been some instances where 911 was called in a non-emergency situation, which means these schools could face consequences from the 'no child left behind' act by being placed on a list. There is apparently pressure to avoid being on this list, hence the memo instructing that 911 to not be called 'under any circumstances'.

It's completely idiotic, to put place statistics above anyones' welfare, and the principal is a fool if he thinks resigning is going to relieve him of any consequences.

Here's a hypothetical: If the Principals' child was the one in need of emergency medical attention, do you think he would have complied with his own memo by not calling for an ambulance?

Asside from that, the immediate teacher had obviously failed in her own duty of care towards the student.
